PlayStation Plus games for December include a game of the year award winner

PlayStation Plus games for December - (ES composite)

Sony has announced the trio of games coming to the PlayStation Plus monthly line-up in December, and one was a big awards winner following its release in 2021.

Your games for December are Aliens: Dark Descent, It Takes Two, and Temtem.

They will be available on December 3, giving you just a few days to claim November’s titles. These are Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Death Note Killer Within.

The upcoming games can be played on either PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, aside from Temtem – it’s a PS5-only release. And as these are the monthly drops, not part of the PlayStation Plus catalogue, they are available to all three tiers of Plus subscriber.

Let’s take a closer look at those games.

PlayStation Plus games for December

It Takes Two is the critical darling of the bunch. It won The Game Awards’ game of the year accolade in 2021, as well as the D.I.C.E. awards’ game of the year gong in 2022.

There’s just one little issue. It Takes Two has no single-player option. It’s mandatory co-op, for two players either in the same room or playing online.

If you can rustle up a friend, partner or family member to play, this one is an unmissable delight. It’s a 3D adventure platformer, in which a couple, parents planning to divorce, are turned into dolls and have to survive in a new fantastical world. But, yeah, the whole divorce story isn’t really the appeal here – the co-op gameplay is.

Next up is Aliens: Dark Descent. It was released in 2023 and is probably the best Aliens game since 2014’s Alien: Isolation.

It’s a tactical squad-based title that attracted comparisons to the much-loved X-COM series. You choose what your teammates do, and those decisions determine whether you’ll survive the next alien attack or not. A highly regarded strategy that earned a respectable 75 score on Metacritic.

The last pick for December is Temtem, the month’s only title to require a PlayStation 5, even if it’s not a major graphical showcase.

Temtem is a Pokémon-like game. You explore the world, collecting creatures and using them in battle. If you’ve ever enjoyed a Pokémon game – of the classic RPG style rather than Pokémon Go – there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this one.

It has online elements that require a bunch of grinding, or micro-payments, but reviews say the main storyline role-playing adventure is more satisfying anyway.
