Nottingham Forest are reportedly getting closer to a deal for Palmeiras midfielder Danilo.
The 21-year-old, who has already been called up to the Brazil national team, has been a constant in Palmeiras' midfield since breaking into the team as a 19-year-old. Danilo has twice won the Copa Libertadores and finished the most recent league season in Brazil by winning Serie A, alongside Forest’s new signing Gustavo Scarpa.
Forest are claimed to be in the market for a defensive midfielder this month and were reported by The Telegraph to be “in talks” with Palmeiras over a move for Danilo. Brazilian outlets have now picked up the story and have given an update on Forest’s negotiations.

Sport Witness reports, via UOL Esporte that the Reds are in “advanced talks” over a €20m (£18m) transfer for the highly-rated defensive midfielder. UOL states that there are a few “details” to be ironed out before a deal can be finalised, though.
The two clubs appear to have agreed a fee for Danilo but Palmeiras are said to still be “discussing” the structure of the payments. The reigning Brazilian champions are also claimed to have asked to keep the player until the summer, which is described as a “possibility”.
Steve Cooper ’s side are reported to not be the only club chasing a move for the holding midfielder. Monaco are credited with an interest in the 21-year-old but it is Forest that are supposedly “leading the race”.
UOL reports that the midfielder has already told people close to him that he plans to reunite with Scarpa at Forest. Danilo missed just four league games as Scarpa took the plaudits for his 19 goal involvements as Palmeiras won the Serie A title.
