If you’re new here to Panthers Wire, let’s key you in to what we’re sure was a confusing title for you to read . . .
This is “Player Prowl,” where we engage in a different type of fantasy football (albeit some admittedly silly fantasy football) and pick players in our own little scenario. In a pretty straightforward exercise, we scan the depth chart of the week’s opponent and simply pluck away any one guy we’d like to see on Carolina’s roster.
It’s basically a chance for us to heap praise and put a spotlight on an individual we’ll be seeing this weekend.
So, speaking of straightforward, our selection from the Cleveland Browns might be as easy as it gets.
Now, to be fair, the Brownies have quite a bit of talent to choose from—running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, offensive linemen Joel Bitonio, Wyatt Teller and Jack Conklin and cornerback Denzel Ward. Plus, if you want to go down that road, they have themselves a, uh, new quarterback.
The choice, however, is defensive end Myles Garrett.
Garrett was the first overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft and has more than lived up to that investment. The 6-foot-4, 272-pounder has amassed 58.5 sacks and 116 quarterback hits over his five-year career—a body of work that’s led to two First-team All-Pro selections, one Second-team All-Pro selection and three Pro Bowl nods.
With the departure of Haason Reddick in the spring, the Panthers could certainly use a new pass-rushing partner for Brian Burns off the edge. And who wouldn’t want to see Garrett reunited with his good buddy Baker Mayfield?
But what do you think? Did we get it right?
