The Metropolitan Police spent over £8million to cover the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, figures show.

Thousands of people took to the streets to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign in June but according to data from the Met Police, £8.1million was spent across the long weekend.

Of that number, £3.4million was spent on overtime for officers between June 1 to 5. Across the force, 8,982 shifts were worked by officers across the Jubilee weekend.

Twenty one arrests were made during the long weekend – 11 of which were for obstruction of highway offences.

The Platinum Jubilee, saw the Queen delight royal fans by appearing on the balcony for Trooping the Colour.

She missed a service of thanksgiving the following day due to health concerns but on Saturday night, the Queen was joined by several generations of her family on the Buckingham Palace balcony following the Platinum Party at the Palace.

Around 22,000 spectators were in attendance for the star-studded concert.

Set across three linked stages joined by 70 illuminated columns, each representing a year of the Queen’s reign, some of the world’s greatest talents came together for a performance like no other.

The Queen, who did not attend in person, delighted viewers after appearing in a two-and-a-half-minute film sequence alongside Paddington Bear to kick off the show.
