A former long-standing Edinburgh stationery shop is set to become a multi-storey restaurant following its recent closure.
In January, Newington Stationers, on South Clerk Street, announced their sad closure with the owner of the family-run business taking a 'step back' due to health reasons.
Now, a planning application has been validated by the City of Edinburgh Council which would see the ground and basement floor utilised as a restaurant, with a change of use being incorporated for the latter.

The ground floor, currently in use as office space, would require some internal alterations including a kitchen and bar area. The main restaurant, including seating covers and another bar, would be located on the basement floor.
We previously reported how the former owner of Newington Stationers, Mumtaz Hussain, followed in the footsteps of his father Karamat, who originally bought the store in 1984.
At the start of the year a heartfelt note was attached to the door announcing the closure of the store and thanking locals over the decades for their custom. Mumtaz did say there was a possibility he could return to the store after a few years, but also said at the time there were already plans to transform it into a restaurant.
Mumtaz said the impact of the pandemic hit the business hard as they were not generating any revenue to battle inflated prices across the industry.
There are no indications as to what type of restaurant 29 South Clerk Street could be become, but those wishing to view the planning application can do so here.
