An Irish property investor and hospitality group behind the planned redevelopment of Howth Castle have received planning permission, subject to a number of conditions being met.
Irish property investor Tetrarch Capital and the Michael J Wright hospitality group lodged a planning application for the €10 million revamp of the historic north Dublin spot. The pair intend to transform the site it into a food, retail, and tourist destination.
Developers proposed a new 150-seat restaurant to be built in a glass-covered pavilion in the stable yard. Additionally, permission was also sought to include a revamped cookery school, gin-marking school, and retail stores, the Irish Times reports.

Further proposals include having picnic and play areas, a petting farm and falconry, and a garden centre. There would also be a 150-seater marquee to the south of the castle for weddings and other major events.
Fingal County Council has given a green light to the redevelopment plans as long as 35 conditions are being met in relation to internal roads and car parking at the site. The Council decided that a proposed road to the east of the site should be omitted from the scheme.
Another condition by the FCC was that the number of parking spaces shall not exceed 151 and a proposed overflow car park be removed from the project. Furthermore, it ruled that developers would be required to provide electric charging units at 10 per cent of the parking spaces.
The Council also asked for the marquee to be relocated to the east of the castle to separate it from the existing group of mature trees, with the design to be revised to be “more sympathetic to the setting”.
Hospitality group CEO Michael J Wright said the team was "pleased" with the decision to grant planning permission. He added: "We look forward to welcoming everyone to Howth Castle and expect it to become a key wedding and tourism destination."
