Plans to convert an old pub in Sneinton into residential units have been rejected by Nottingham City Council.
The vacant old pub in Thurgarton Street was formerly known as The Bendigo, and has previously been described as an eyesore by neighbours.
The plan for the old pub and restaurant is to extend and convert the building into 14 flats.
The building still has a statue above its entrance of William 'Bendigo' Thompson, a 19th century fighter and boxer.
However, the proposals, submitted by applicant Zain Khan, were rejected by the city council in November last year.
The decision was made due to the plans not being the correct design for the area, providing residential accommodation and failing to meet the reasonable costs of new infrastructure.
Detailing their decision, Nottingham City Council said: "The proposed extensions, by reason of their design, appearance and relationship with the existing building, would fail to preserve or enhance the character of the Old Sneinton Conservation Area.
"The development provides residential accommodation which does not comply with the Nationally Described Space Standards and fails to provide an acceptable standard of accommodation for future occupiers.
"The proposal fails to meet the reasonable costs of new infrastructure or services by means of a planning obligation relating to the enhancement of existing public open space and the provision of on-site or off-site affordable housing."
