Plans to raise £5,000 in just one week to support the victims of domestic abuse have been announced.
Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS) are taking part in the Women and Girls Match Fund 2022 to raise funds for The Reach Project and the campaign will be launched on International Womens Day – March 8 2022.
The Reach project was specifically designed to reach the most marginalised women and girls with multiple disadvantages who need specialist support to break free from Domestic Abuse.
This includes individuals from diverse communities, those with complex needs and young girls in abusive relationships.
One current beneficiary of the Reach project shared how much of a difference the campaign’s support has made for her.
She said: “I never knew how strong I was or that I could survive on my own with my children. I never thought that I would ever be in a situation like this.
“[The Reach Project] have helped me so much and given me strength when I was ready to give up. So many times I thought of going back but I know I made the right decision. I don’t have to explain things about my culture or religion, they understand. I’m not scared that they will judge or laugh at me but believe what I say.”
Last year 42pc of TDAS’ service users were from minority backgrounds, 64pc had mental health needs, 30pc were misusing substances and 40pc had multiple vulnerabilities with 18pc suffering from what is known as the ‘Toxic-Trio’ – domestic abuse, substance-misuse and mental health problems.
These groups are known to encounter additional difficulties when trying to access and receive domestic abuse support.
With the funds raised, specialist support workers will be available to break down these barriers and provide the appropriate support.
Any donations to The Reach Project are set to be matched by the government’s Department for Communities Media and Sports’ Tampon Tax Fund – meaning one donation can support twice as many victims of domestic abuse.

Any donations made during that window will be matched by central government.
