Plans to convert Edinburgh townhouses into plush apartments to be granted approval by council

Edinburgh Council are set to grant permission to transform former west end townhouse offices into 34 luxury apartments.

With the application being validated back in August 2021, McLaughlin & Harvey are finally get to be given the green light to pursue the change of use at 14-17 Atholl Crescent.

Permission was previously explored to transform the row of townhouses near the city centre into a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes, but an array of issues and knock-backs have delayed progress until now.

However, the applicant will be delighted to read that ahead of the council's planning committee on Wednesday, February 8, the project is to be granted and work may commence soon.

It is intended to redevelop the properties and reinstate their original residential use, respecting the category A listed status of the properties and where possible, reinstating original features where now removed.

The developers believe that these properties "represents an exciting opportunity to breathe fresh life into a group of historic buildings whilst creating a new high quality architectural development in keeping with the grandeur of Atholl Crescent."

The rear apartments of the townhouses and mews townhouses will benefit from private garden space, which will create a pleasant environment for the wider development and a material improvement on the existing car parking.

The A-listed building at Atholl Crescent was built to designs by Thomas Bonnar in 1824-25 and significant alterations have taken place within the townhouses since then.
