Plans for a new hotel in Ebbw Vale have been submitted to Blaenau Gwent council. The plans propose to transform the former King's Arms pub on Newchurch Road into a 14 bedroom hotel.
The building is a long established landmark and located in a prominent position in Ebbw Vale. The popular suburban freehouse was previously on the market for £340,000.
If proposals are accepted, the scheme invloves adapting the public house to have 14 bedrooms with en-suites. This would be done by converting the existing lounge and function room on the ground floor and adapting the owners' accommodation on the top floor. The existing bar, reception area, toilets and walkway leading to the exisiting childrens play area will be retained.

The existing site has a large area of land to the rear of the property. The plans show that a portion of the land will be made into a tarmac finished car park, which wil include seven off-street parking spaces., accessable off Gibbons Villas. The remaining land could be kept for future development. Also one disabled car parking space will be available at the front of the new hotel.
The proposed plans also note that the conversion work will not alter the "magnificent dressed stone front facade." Th scheme does not include any extentions and it will not interfere with any neighbouring privacy, sunlight, or impact the attractiveness of the street.
