The remaining 40 homes are expected to be will be priced at or below the local rent allowance with lettings for the homes being prioritised towards people over 55.
The addition of this rule is expected to free up the waiting list for homes to rent in Chorlton giving families in the area a chance to find their dream home.
Buttress, an award-winning architectural company based in Manchester, will be making sure the homes align with certain principles due to guidelines. These include:
- The inclusion of large balconies increased light levels and shared social spaces.
- High-quality fixtures and fittings.
- Incorporate strong elements of the natural environment.
A strong emphasis on decarbonisation and sustainability.
The development is also expected to feature a main hub and communal spaces giving opportunities for meetings and community work for tenants living in the homes.
More external services will potentially be introduced in the development including health services and mental health well-being spaces.
Councillor Gavin White, Manchester City Council's executive member for housing and development spoke on the new plans:
“We know that local people have been eager to see this site brought back into use for some time and it’s great to see the project moving at full steam.
"Working with MSV, we have taken the opportunity to use the site to build new sustainable, affordable housing to meet demand in the area and help diversify the housing market in Chorlton.
"This is a really exciting development, and we look forward to seeing these homes take shape.”
Charlie Norman, CEO of MSV Housing Group said: “This scheme has been some time in the planning, but it’s absolutely vital that we get this flagship development right.
Chorlton and the surrounding area needs affordable homes to rent for its older citizens and we are proud to be the organisation that will deliver a highly sustainable, age-appropriate development of the highest calibre and green credentials.”
The construction is scheduled to be finished in the summer of 2025 and will cost more than £12 million.
