Plans revealed to convert empty Cardiff office buildings into huge apartment complex

A largely empty office building in Cardiff Bay is set to be transformed into a huge apartment complex. The Scott Harbour buildings at the junction between Bute Place and Pierhead Street have been predominantly vacant for over two years but could be "revitalised" if new plans to convert them into a development featuring as many as 100 flats are approved.

Under the proposals, which are due to be formally submitted to Cardiff council, part of the buildings would also be converted into shops and offices, while a new cafe, gym, residents' lounge and co-working space are also included in the plans. The existing buildings, namely Emperor House, Terra Nova House, Alexander House, Ross House and Discovery House, were built in 1997. Occupied by companies including Lloyds Banking Group, Parmer Cardiff and Firstsource, the site has remained almost entirely unchanged since then and the proposed development would only see some external alterations made to the buildings, with no demolition taking place.
