Plans for a solar farm near Borgue have been lodged with the council.
High Nunton Solar Farm would cover nearly 50 acres and generate enough electricity a year to power 8,000 homes.
If the bid is successful, it is hoped work will begin in 2025.
An information brochure on the project says the site has been chosen because of its remoteness and the “local area’s solar microclimate”.
The land is currently used for grazing and it is hoped sheep will remain on the land once the solar farm has been built. There will also be trees and hedges to screen the solar panels and a new path and picnic area.
As well as solar panels, there will also be batteries to store generated electricity.
The farm would have a capacity of up to 49.9 megawatts with the panels capable of generating up to 29.9 MW.
