Plans for new phase of Cribbs Causeway project near Bristol submitted

A developer has submitted plans for a new phase of a major regeneration scheme on the northern edge of Bristol, which will add 150 homes.

Housebuilder Bellway South West is teaming up with fellow construction firm Taylor Wimpey on the huge new project on land off Cribbs Causeway.

The joint venture is aiming to deliver a total of around 780 homes, which could be located within a five-minute drive of the nearby out-of-town shopping centre.

Bellway’s part of the Berwick Green scheme is already underway, with the first phase of construction set to deliver 256 homes, the first of which are scheduled to be available for sale later this year.

Now the company is seeking planning permission for phase two, which will consist of a further 153 homes.

Tim Lund, sales director for Bellway South West, said: “Submitting our plans for phase two of Berwick Green is an important moment in this significant project.

“The land purchase for Berwick Green was the largest ever made by our South West division and forms a cornerstone of our commitment to helping meet the local demand for homes. Seeing through this planning application will enable us to take the next steps in this scheme.

“We are sure the development will be popular as we are offering a wide variety of home styles and the location offers so much in terms of its proximity to the shops and leisure facilities at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, its close links to Bristol city centre and its easy access to the M5, less than a mile away.”

In addition to housing, the two companies have said the project will bring an investment of more than £12m in local services including education and highways.

Bellway’s first phase at Berwick Green will feature a mix of 192 two to four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom apartments for private sale.

These will sit alongside 64 properties classified as affordable housing, available for rent or through shared ownership.

Phase two of the development is proposed to include a further 112 private properties and 41 affordable homes.

A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey said in May said its own proposals for its first phase of development at Berwick Green would include 244 homes, and it was "gearing up to start work as soon as we receive planning approval."

BusinessLive understands the company is still awaiting planning permission to be granted.
