Plans for gigantic Edinburgh village to replace former brewery site at Fountainbridge

Edinburgh locals have been invited to have their say over a major new development in Fountainbridge.

Launching this week, the consultation will take on opinions over a huge residential village being built on the site of the former brewery next to the Union Canal.

Plans were initially put in motion for the development back in 2016, with the council agreeing on a regeneration project that would see over 430 new homes constructed, as well as an extension to Boroughmuir High School. With work underway on the school extension, the focus has turned to just over the road, where the currently derelict field will see an unrecognisable transformation.

Similar to other new builds in the area, the proposed apartment blocks would stand at seven or eight storeys high, with new commercial shops and smaller blocks also to feature in the complex.

Surrounding the former Printmakers building, each of the buildings is also set to be following an environmentally friendly guideline, with eco and rooftop gardens on most of the sites, offering private buys as well as some social housing.

Giving the contract to developers Cruden Homes, the company will launch a public consultation on Thursday (June 30) to discuss the proposals in detail.

On Thursday 30 June, between 3pm and 7pm, the development team will be available online to respond to local questions, as well as to display detailed plans of what will be constructed.

You can find a link to the consultation site here.
