Plans for disused Edinburgh convenience store to be turned into fish and chip shop

A disused former convenience store in Edinburgh could be transformed into a fish and chip shop after a second application was submitted to the council following a previous knock back.

The proposals for 45-47 Longstone Road were refused due to the applicant, who also owns the business next door, wishing to extend the footprint to the front of the building as well as fears over the noise of an extraction system that would have been fitted.

The plans have now been re-evaluated for the former convenience store that has lain empty for a number of years, with the applicant saying their client has "vast experience in the hot food take away sector" and believes that the business would "serve the community well."

Uploaded floor plans and elevations show that the building would become Gino's fish and chip shop selling a variety of pizzas and kebabs as well as offering a delivery service. However, Gino's is already located next to the building in question, suggesting an expansion into number 45-47 could be part of the plans, or a move into a larger shop.

The application states that the owner of Gino's has purchased the disused building next door and plans to incorporate it into another hot food takeaway service, changing the current use as a shop.

A supporting statement on behalf of the applicant reads: "My client has purchased the above property which had lain empty for a number of years and was previously a retail unit which provided general convenience to the local area. My client has vast experience in the hot food take away sector and is confident the use as a hot food take away will serve the community well."
