Plans for 170 new homes spark fears over doctors and dentists

Plans submitted for 170 new homes in St Helens have sparked concerns over local infrastructure.

An application was submitted to St Helens Council by Stanley Land and Homes to redevelop the land off Lancots Lane in Sutton. The collection of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes will be developed on an 11-acre derelict brown field site.

The developer claims that all the homes will be classed as affordable housing, however for some living in the area, the proposals have created worries over doctors and dentist waiting lists.

One person said: "We are already struggling with doctors and dentists being snowed under with patients, so surely building this many new homes can't be the best idea."

While another added: "The waiting lists will just keep getting longer."

Despite this, Stanley Land and Homes claims that the plans will transform a "post-industrial hub into a residential community". Part of a design and access statement for the plans reads: "Building typology comprises a mix of detached, semidetached, and mews style properties, which are two storeys in height, along with a small percentage of single storey bungalows.

"One bedroom properties are provided with one allocated parking space, two / three bedroom properties are provided with two allocated parking spaces, and four bedroom properties are provided with three allocated parking spaces."

Neil Hughes, director of Stanley Land and Homes, comments: “We’re excited to submit plans for another high-quality scheme in St Helens that addresses an identified affordable housing need and contributes to the regeneration of this part of the town.

“If approved, this will be another highly sustainable scheme that will provide residents with efficient and affordable housing. It’s situated in a location that is currently undergoing its own transformation, creating a new community and a great place for people to live.”
