The government is organising major events this year to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother's 90th birthday on Aug 12.
Grand celebrations are also being planned for His Majesty's sixth cycle or 72nd birthday on July 28, 2024 as well as His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great's landmark centenary on Dec 5, 2027.
A committee tasked with supervising the arrangements is chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
The committee held a remote meeting on Monday to discuss preparations for the events. In attendance were parliament president Chuan Leekpai, Supreme Court president Piyakul Boonperm, Senate speaker Pornpet Wichitcholachai as well as senior officials from various agencies. Gen Prayut told the meeting that Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother will turn 90 on Aug 12 and the government is launching projects and campaigns to mark the highly auspicious occasion.
State agencies will put together special events and projects to honour Her Majesty's dedication to the country's development and prosperity.
The celebrations will also highlight Her Majesty's benevolence and allow younger generations to learn from projects she initiated, which have benefited people across the country.
The prime minister added that there will also be similar celebrations to commemorate His Majesty the King's 72nd birthday and on July 28 as well as His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great's centenary on Dec 5.
Gen Prayut said three working panels will be directing and working on the celebrations for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother's birthday.
