Planning secured for new use of North Wales resort hotel that was 'no longer viable'

Permission has been secured to turn a seaside resort hotel that has been hit by "declining trade" into a residential family assessment centre.

The Medeor Hotel in Rhyl has been run as a guest house for a number of years by the current owners but when they put it up for sale there was no interest from anyone wanting to continue to operate the site as tourism accommodation.

This saw them apply to change the use of the site so that 38.6 Solutions Ltd could open a residential family assessment centre, working with local authorities in the area.

Plans were put in on their behalf by planning agents Owen Devenport.

They have now secured the change of use from Denbighshire council.

Jamie Bradshaw, director at Owen Devenport, said: "We are delighted to have secured consent for this much needed family assessment centre for our clients.

"This will allow them to grow their operation and meet the need for this type of facility in the region, and will provide a vital facility that will support families in need of their services.

"It is also a good use of a former guesthouse that had closed as it was no longer viable as a business due to changing trends in the type of accommodation and holidays that tourists seek in the area."

The facility will be staffed 24 hours a day with CCTV internally and externally and the applicant said there had been no instances of anti-social behaviour at a similar facility in the area.
