Planning secured for new 188-home development in Lanarkshire

A housebuilder has secured detailed planning for a new housing development in Lanarkshire.

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has obtained an Approval of Matters specified in Conditions (AMC) from North Lanarkshire Council for the provision of 188 private new homes on land off Carnbroe Road in Coatbridge.

The development will provide a mix of two and three-bedroom terrace and semi-detached, as well as four-bedroom detached homes to appeal to a wide range of potential buyers.

Calder Wynd is part of a wider master plan which benefits from Planning Permission in Principle (PPP), and Taylor Wimpey’s detailed planning consent confirms the details of the housing mix, landscaping and building materials that will be delivered.

Enjoying a semi-rural feel with existing woodland, as well as the convenience of the A8/M8 motorway network nearby, Calder Wynd has been designed to "create a sense of place and maximises the latest Scottish Government Planning Policy for Designing Streets".

These designs give priority to pedestrians over vehicles through the use of shared surfaces and home zones to create natural areas of focus at key points of the development.

The development will also benefit from the delivery of key infrastructure as part of the master plan vision for the area, such as the newly upgraded Carnbroe Road, which will allow access to local cycle paths and walkways; and there are plans for a playpark as well as additional pockets of open space across for the enjoyment of all.

Colin Blair, technical director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, told Lanarkshire Live : “We are delighted to confirm that we have secured our detailed planning consent for the development of land off Carnbroe Road, Carnbroe, near Coatbridge.

“This development will cement our much-anticipated return to the surrounding Coatbridge area, and represents a significant and continued investment in North Lanarkshire by Taylor Wimpey West Scotland.

”Calder Wynd will provide 188 new homes at Carnbroe and our development will form a key part of a wider master plan vision for the area, and we look forward to starting our programme of pre-construction works later this year and we will keep the local community updated on our plans to do so.

“As well as playing our part in the delivery of new homes, our development will provide a range of economic benefits for the local area which includes supporting over 160 jobs per year of construction, as well as the attraction of new customers to local businesses.”
