British bike brand Planet X looks likely to go into administration

On One Wrekker

Planet X bikes seem to have gone into administration after a High Court notice of an intention to appoint administrator was filed on 1st June.

Our sister site, Cycling Weekly, has also reported that a First Gazette Notice was published on 6th June on the Companies House website. It reads that within two months unless "cause is shown to the contrary", Planet X will be "struck off the register and dissolved" which would permanently force it to cease trading.

Founded in 1998 by Dave Loughran, the Rotherham, South Yorkshire, based brand has been behind a slew of bikes of all kinds that have massively outperformed their price tags, not least the MTB hardtails and gravel bikes produced under the On-One moniker. We gave the steel framed Rujo gravel bike 5 stars in our review late last year, while the Wrekker Titanium MTB received 4.5 stars earlier in 2022.

In addition to On-One, Planet X also includes the brands Titus, Holdsworth and Carnac and have been responsible for all manner of bike gear as well as complete bikes over the years.

The brand became an Employee Owned Trust (EOT) after its 50 employees bought out the company from its founders in 2020.

If the notice of administration becomes a reality, then the loss of Planet X will be a big blow to cyclists across the UK and around the world after 35 years of producing some truly excellent bikes.

We've contacted Planet X for confirmation, but have yet to receive a reply. We'll update this article as we know more.
