Plane passengers have been sent into a panic after watching an airport worker put tape on a Spirit Airlines wing before take off. TikTok user @myhoneysmacks has shared an alarming clip of the worker casually "taping the plane together" while passengers took their seats onboard.
In a viral clip, the worker is seen standing on a ladder struggling to roll the speed tape along the upper-most part of the wing, stopping every now and then to readjust his alignment. But upon seeing this, the passenger said: "The reason why I don’t fly with Spirit. I don’t care if it is aviation airplane tape or nothing, the fact that you have to tape the plane together and then you doing it while people are on the flight like we cannot see you.
"That’s the reason why I will not fly with Spirit, now Southwest I’ll do, but Spirit no sir."
The passenger, flying from Nashville International Airport, added: "After a while, they’re going to need a fresh new roll of tape, their tapes going to lose all its stickiness, you flying all around the world and you got tape holding it together.
"Don’t even worry about it, I won’t be booking with you."
Speed tape is an aluminium pressure-sensitive adhesive used to make quick repairs on aircraft and race cars.
John Nance, a veteran pilot and safety consultant, told Traveller: "There's never going to be a piece of garden-variety duct tape used on an airplane.
"So if you're looking at it, it's called speed tape and it's very, very specifically designed to do whatever it is they're trying to make it do."
Commenting on her video, one user said: "Why are you still sitting on the plane!"
Another user added: "That’s Gorilla Glue tape - girly you safer than you were before it was fixed."
A third user said: "Not him taping the tape in place!"
One more user added: "Spirit trying to get some real spirits."
