Plane etiquette is a divisive topic, with lots of disagreements flaring up around if someone should move for family members to sit together or if another traveller is in discomfort.
One recent account shocked readers on Reddit after it was revealed that a passenger who had refused to move out of someone else's pre-paid seat was then offered an upgrade. Writing on the social media platform, another traveller explained that the drama unfolded in the row behind them.
They said: "A late middle-aged lady sat in the aisle seat. Towards the end of boarding a very tall man asked her to move, as she was in his allocated seat.

"She refused saying he should sit in her middle seat (whilst not actually moving to allow him through). He insisted on his pre-booked seat and there was a stand-off.
"Eventually, due to the man blocking the aisle for some minutes, the cabin crew came to see what was happening, and told the lady to move to her allocated seat. She point blank refused and then just ignored them in silence."
The cabin crew then asked the man if he was prepared to swap, but he refused. Seemingly stuck for another option, crew then went to speak to their supervisor, and came back offering the woman a seat in business class.
"At this point she could not have moved quicker," they wrote. "Personally I was disgusted. If anything, the displaced man should have been offered the upgrade. It was a sickener to see her bad behaviour rewarded."
Responding to the post, people were outraged that the woman was offered the upgrade. One person wrote: "And the seat stealer will learn that if she just doesn't do what she's supposed to, she'll be rewarded. Reinforcing entitled behavior just gets more entitled behavior."
Another wrote: "Flight crew should have either given the man the upgrade to business class, or had the woman removed from the plane." A third said: "And that man should have blocked seat stealer and taken the business seat.... Full circle."
