Plane forced to make emergency landing at Liverpool Airport

Emergency services were called to Liverpool John Lennon Airport this evening as a plane was forced to make an emergency landing.

A plane flying passengers from Guernsey to Manchester was forced to land in Liverpool after a "technical difficulty".

Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue confirmed they attended the airport and blocked Hale Road off at around 7.15pm today (Sunday, February 20) after reports of an emergency regarding an aircraft flying into Liverpool.

A John Lennon Airport spokesperson told the ECHO: "ATR-72 aircraft operated by the Guernsey airline Aurigny travelling from Guernsey to Manchester made an unscheduled landing at Liverpool at around 7:30pm this evening due to a technical issue.

"The aircraft landed safely and passengers are likely to complete the rest of their journey to Manchester by coach."

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were called shortly before 7.15pm following reports of an aircraft in difficulty. MFRS resources were sent to the scene but no fire service action was required as the aircraft landed safely."

This incident comes just days after Manchester City's team plane was forced to land in Liverpool on their way back from Lisbon due to the weather conditions.

The strong winds made for a scary landing as the pilot landed the plane in Liverpool on Wednesday, February 16 after failing to touch down in Manchester three times.
