Plane flown over Anfield with anti-FSG banner before Liverpool vs Man Utd

A plane featuring a banner calling for Fenway Sports Group to leave Liverpool was flown over Anfield prior to Sunday's match against Manchester United.

A slogan reading 'FSG out - Klopp in - Enough is enough' could be seen trailing from the plane which circled above the ground shortly before kick-off.

Several boos could be heard from the home fans at Anfield when the banner was seen, although they were largely drowned out by the pre-match noise.

FSG, who have been Liverpool's owners since 2010, had been believed by many to be selling the club in the near future, only for Reds owner John W Henry to recently state that they were committed to looking for minority ownership.

Speaking to the Boston Sports Journal last month, Henry said: "Yes. I know there has been a lot of conversation and quotes about LFC, but I keep to the facts: we merely formalized an ongoing process.

"Will we be in England forever? No. Are we selling LFC? No. Are talking with investors about LFC? Yes. Will something happen there? I believe so, but it won't be a sale. Have we sold anything in the past 20+ years?"

The banner was met with a mixed reception from fans (PA)

It is now expected that FSG will partner with a minority investor and stay in charge at Anfield, with the American owners presiding over Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Club World Championship and European Super Cup wins during their time at the helm.

Despite those successes, several Reds fans have been unhappy at a lack of transfer investment in recent years, with the club in the midst of a disappointing season which sees them challenging for a place in the top four.
