Plans have been submitted to the council for the transformation of a former hospital's mortuary into homes.
The Grade II listed High Royds Hospital was built in the 19th century, but has been closed for years. Now, the majority of the former hospital has already been converted into housing.
Avant Homes, however, are hoping to transform the former mortuary into housing as well. They hope to do this with a minimum of changes to the exterior of the building, to maintain its historic character.

According to the application, the windows will be retained where possible, with timber doors to match the existing style of the building. The interior of the building has also degraded over the years and so will need to be repaired and re plastered.
They said the floors and ceilings inside the building are in a "poor" condition with no "significant features to retain".
The Heritage and Design access statement says: "The building has had frequent break-ins, fly tipping and has had metal ripped out internally. Avant Homes would like to convert this to dwellings as the locality of the area is residential and commercial use would not be appropriate in keeping with the existing.
"Avant Homes feel that a residential building would fit in the area. After the proposed refurbishment works the building outlook would change for the better. The proposed dwellings will come with dedicated car parking incorporating EV charge points and Bicycle stores."
The application will now go to Leeds City Council and they will decide whether or not to approve the development.
