More than 30 retirement homes could be built in Heswall, after a developer released details of plans it claims will provide “high quality” accommodation for those who want to live independently.
McCarthy Stone wants to build 37 homes “specially designed to meet the needs of people in later life” just off Well Lane in the Wirral town. Ian Wilkins, from McCarthy Stone, said: “Our plans provide a fantastic opportunity to deliver much-needed Retirement Living accommodation and regenerate a brownfield site.
“The site is ideally located for residents to access local shops and services, with a town centre bus and train station providing transport links across the wider region.” Mr Wilkins said the firm was proposing a “sensitive design” which “respects the character of the local area”.

The Heswall apartments will have landscaped gardens under the plans, with on-site parking also provided. Residents can expect communal facilities such as a lounge, mobility scooter charging and storage room, guest suite and lift access to all floors.
This sort of accommodation allows people to retain the independence and privacy of their own home, safe in the knowledge that support, if needed, is on hand. McCarthy Stone has conducted a pre-application consultation and said it is committed to engaging with the local community.
The company has offered meetings to close neighbours of the site to give them an opportunity to discuss the initial proposals via online one-to-one meetings. The company intends to submit its plan to Wirral Council, who will decide whether to accept or reject the proposal.
