Plaid Cymru top new Senedd poll amid plunge in Labour support

PLAID Cymru have topped polling in Wales, beating out Labour for the first time since 2010.

The poll by Barn Cymru shows that Plaid would win 24% of the vote should an election be called, with Welsh Labour falling behind at 23%.

It also shows a surge in support for Reform UK, which now sits at 23%, equalling the Brexit Party’s highest ever place in the polls in 2019. The Conservative’s are currently trailing at 19%.

Public's current Senedd voting intentions:

• Plaid Cymru: 24% (+1)

• Labour: 23% (-4)

• Reform UK: 23% (+5)

• Conservative: 19% (+1)

• Lib Dem: 5% (-1)

• Green: 6% (+1)

• Other: 1% (-2)

Leading up to this year's General Election, Welsh Labour had a four-point lead over Plaid and a nine-point lead over Reform UK.

Now on their third First Minister of 2024 after Vaughan Gething's resignation, Welsh Labour is facing scrutiny over the UK party cutting the universal winter fuel allowance for pensioners and changing inheritance tax thresholds for farmers.

Plaid Cymru’s manifesto going into the 2024 General Election pledged to hold consultations on independence from the UK, to secure £4 billion for public transport, and to hire 500 GPs.

Plaid, under the leadership of Rhun ap Iorwerth, have voiced public concerns over winter fuel allowances, NHS waiting lists and economic problems.

A spokesperson for Plaid Cymru said: “If these figures are repeated at the election, Plaid Cymru would become the largest party in the Senedd for the first time ever. Meanwhile, Labour’s support is collapsing, exposing their failure to deliver.”

The next Senedd election will be held in May 2026.
