A quick-thinking member of the public in Highland Perthshire ensured a roe deer stuck in a worrying situation was able to survive.
Towards the end of last month, the wild deer fell into a narrow space between a shed and a wall in Pitlochry.
But luckily it was saved by the Scottish SPCA after the animal welfare charity was alerted of the unusual sight.
The wild deer had somehow wedged itself on its back in a narrow gap beside a wall and was in danger of death if it did not receive help to get back on its feet.
The Scottish SPCA was called out to the address to perform the rescue.
Unharmed, the doe was released back into the wild, trotting away into the snow.
Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer Lucy Rattray said: “The deer had become trapped on her back in a narrow space.
“She had been stuck there for a few hours but, after a few attempts, I was able to free her.
“Thankfully, she only had light grazing to her body and was able to be released only a couple of miles away from where she was found.
“We are grateful to the member of the public who alerted us to the deer in difficulty and preventing any further distress or suffering to this animal.
“If anyone needs help to rescue a trapped or distressed animal they can call our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
