Plans to upgrade an artificial football pitch at Park Mains High School in Erskine have been scheduled to begin next month.
A contract award – worth in excess of £300,000 – for the works at the facility in the town’s Barrhill Road will go before councillors on Thursday.
The finance, resources and customer services policy board will be asked to give its seal of approval to Allsports Construction and Maintenance, who came out on top in a Renfrewshire Council tendering exercise.
If given the green light, the contractor will carry out the “upgrading” of the 3G football pitch at the school.
A report, which will be considered by the board, said nine organisations expressed an interest in the project but only two submitted a tender response by the closing date of Thursday, April 20.
Allsports was adjudged to be the most “economically advantageous” of those presented to the local authority.
Elected members will be asked to authorise the head of corporate governance to award the contract and its sum of £311,420.10, excluding VAT, to the company. This would include an addition five per cent contingency for any unforeseen works.
The works are intended to begin on Monday, July 17, and be completed by Friday, September 15. However, any potential changes to this timeline would be confirmed in the council’s letter of acceptance.
The report added: “A capital budget of £1.2 million has been made available for the upgrading of artificial pitches in Renfrewshire and the costs of this contract will be met through this budget.”
It was recently revealed an extension is needed for Park Mains, which would increase its capacity from around 1,600 to 2,000 – at a cost of between £27m and £30m.
In the meantime, modular classrooms are due to be installed during the next school year to provide flexibility for the school.
