A young girl has been injured after a savage attack by a dog while out walking with her family on a beach in Edinburgh.
The six-year-old was walking on Cramond Beach with three older teenage family members when she was set upon by a black Pitbull dog at around 5pm on Friday.
The dog pounced on her and proceeded to attack her by biting her on the face, body and arms.
The man in charge of the dog fled the scene.
He is described as white, about 60 years old, six feet tall, average build with a white beard.
He was wearing a red baseball cap, a long black coat and blue jeans.
The attack left the girl needing medical treatment for her injuries.
Her current condition is not yet known.
Officers are urging anyone who recognises the description of the man to call 101 quoting reference 2853 of 18 March 2022.
