Pit bull ruckus at police station: Accused gets bail from Kerala HC

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted bail to a man accused of creating a ruckus at a police station and attacking a police officer after arriving with a pit bull while drunk.

Justice Kauser Edappagath granted bail with conditions after considering the submission that the accused, Winson of Choondal in Thrissur, is under treatment for mental problems.

Prosecution informed the court that the bail applicant was summoned to Guruvayur police station on August 22nd in connection with another case. He arrived in a car with his dog and created a ruckus at the station premises. When an additional sub-inspector tried to stop him, he kicked the police officer and tried to destroy the gate of the compound, prosecution submitted.

After perusing the case diary, the court found that the charges against the applicant are prima facie true. However, the court granted him conditional bail as he has been in custody since August 22nd and his continued detention would worsen his mental problems. The court had summoned the applicant’s wife and brother and directed them to ensure appropriate medical treatment for him. One of the conditions of availing the bail is that the applicant’s brother should be a surety.
