PIP providing 35,000 people with diabetes across the UK with up to £627 each month

Nearly 35,000 working age adults across the UK are currently receiving up to £627.60 every four weeks to help with the additional costs of daily living or mobility needs as a result of diabetes. Approximately 276,000 people living in Scotland have either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, yet only 3,741are claiming additional financial support through Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

Thousands of people living with diabetes may not be aware of the financial support available from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) through PIP, however, those living in Scotland should be aware the benefit is being replaced in Scotland by Adult Disability Payment(ADP) from August 29. The devolved disability benefit will follow similar eligibility criteria and payment rates.

Recent statistics from Diabetes UK show that more than 4.9 million people in the UK have diabetes with around 90 per cent of those living with Type 2 diabetes and around 8 per cent with Type 1 diabetes.
