Pinkmans will be closed today (Wednesday, June 28) after fire broke out at their premises in the early hours of this morning. Management at the much-loved bakery, located at the Clifton end of Park Street, confirmed that “everybody is safe and sound” after eight fire engines were called out to tackle the blaze.
In a statement on social media, they said the fire had been contained “really quickly” by Avon Fire and Rescue Service. They thanked all the emergency services who responded, saying they were “real heroes”.
The full statement read: “Unfortunately we will be closed today. Thank you for all the support from friends, our lovely customers and suppliers who have already offered their help and support.

“We will get out of this stronger. Bristol, we love you. And we will be back soon for more sour doughnuts and yummy goods.”
The fire broke out at the premises in Berkeley Avenue in Clifton with fire crews responding rapidly. Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed eight fire engines, the drone unit, the command unit and a turntable ladder were used to contain the blaze.

An eyewitness, Justine Sleigh, said she had woken up to the sound of cracking and breaking glass. She said: “I thought someone had broken in.
“I live alone so was instantly panicked. I opened my bedroom door and just saw bright orange light. I looked out of the window to see the flames and called 999 immediately at around 3.58 am."
She said that she left her flat and banged on her neighbours’ doors. She added: “I exited the building to find a paramedic outside ringing our doorbells - it turns out they had been driving past and saw the blaze."
She said that within the next five minutes, other residents had come out and the fire rescue team arrived. She added: “Many thanks to the fire services who got to work immediately. It was really a big relief."
