Pink says her real name 'never felt like her' until she became a mum

P!nk has revealed that her birth name never resonated with her until she gave birth to her eldest child, Willow, and became a mum.

The hitmaker who has gone under the pseudonym since finding fame in 1995 has rarely used her birth name in her career and very rarely reflects on it.

But now, she has opened up about her identity and shed light on how she is treated away from the cameras and off stage by those nearest to her, including playground mums.

The singer, 43, who was recently crowned as the most-played female artist of the 21st Century in the UK spoke to fellow singer Jessie Ware.

During an appearance on her Table Manners podcast, she was asked whether Jessie and her mum should refer to her as P!nk or Alecia.

"You can call me anything you like," she said before Jessie revealed how she wanted to tell pals she had "hung out with Alecia."

P!nk went on to add: "I can be Alecia, I'm Alecia.

"I never felt like Alecia until I became a mom, it's very strange," before going on to reveal parents at her children's schools call her by Alecia or "Mrs Hart".

"Do we ever call each other by our names? It's like 'whats up brah?'" she joked.

Following the release of her ninth studio album Trustfall, the global megastar has opened up on her astronomical success and admits she often finds it difficult to receive praise.

But in a heartbreaking admission, she revealed to Ronan Keating that her daughter Willow, 11, has questioned her on the death threats she has received after fighting for equality in the music business and for women's rights.

She told the singer on his Magic Radio Breakfast show: "My daughter actually asked me the other day, 'mamma why do you do this?' because I get a lot of death threats, and I said well because it is in me.

"I was born this way, but also I was raised this way, my dad was a fighter, he was called Mr Cause. He was a letter writer, a marcher and it's in me."

She later explained that she spoke candidly to her daughter and said that there are other ways for her to help people, including being an ally, voting, donating and educating people.

But her daughter holds a key part in her famous mum's global tours, with P!nk admitting Willow has a job and receives a salary.
