Pink has been taking marriage tips from Miley Cyrus, it seems – she’s buying herself flowers.
But unlike Miley, 30, who sang about treating herself to some choice blooms to celebrate being single, Pink, 43, says her self-bought bouquets are what keep her marriage alive.
The Get the Party Started singer has been married to motorcross racer Carey Hart, 47, since 2006 and they have two kids. And Pink, who performed two headline sets at BST Hyde Park last month, says: “I started sending myself flowers last year, just with a note saying, ‘I love you.’ Don’t wait guys, just do it for yourself.”
Having couples’ therapy and “knowing when to be genuinely sorry” also helps, she says, but it’s mainly the flowers. And she adds: “This is what they teach in marriage counselling: remorse, regret, resolution.”
At least the bad times have inspired some hits, as Please Don’t Leave Me was written when the couple were considering a divorce in 2008.
That turbulent period also inspired her hit So What? before the couple eventually patched things up and called off their divorce plans in 2009.
She has previously said of their therapist, Vanessa: “You need someone to hear both of you and then translate it for you, and without Vanessa
translating for me for the last 18 years, I mean, we would not be together.”
There are three people in this marriage, and it’s a good thing.
