A man is his 30s has died after his crop-dusting plane crashed on Queensland's Western Downs.
Emergency crews were called to the incident at Canaga near Chinchilla shortly before midday, after a member of the public spotted the crop duster in distress.
Police said the plane had lost altitude and crash-landed in a paddock, near Chinchilla-Wondai Road and T Atkins Road.
The Queensland Ambulance Service said the pilot suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
A crime scene has been established.
Queensland Police's forensic crash unit, working alongside the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), will prepare a report for the coroner.
Investigators from the ATSB will be sent to the site to collect evidence.
"ATSB investigators will survey and map the accident site and collect any relevant components for further examination and analysis," a spokesperson said.
"They will also obtain and review any recorded data, weather information, witness reports, and aircraft operator procedures and maintenance records."
The ATSB said it expected to publish a preliminary report on the crash in about six to eight weeks.
