Collingwood are set to lose AFLW star Chloe Molloy to Sydney without receiving any compensation in return.
The two-time All-Australian and 2018 Rising Star has informed the Pies of her intention to leave after new trade and signing rules came into effect.
Under the priority signing period, the four expansion clubs are able to sign a number of players without having to negotiate a trade.
The clubs can also offer players longer-term contracts than is otherwise allowed.
Molloy, 24, has played 47 games with the Pies since debuting in 2018 and was an important cog in the Pies' midfield last season after they lost co-captain Bri Davey and key midfielder Britt Bonnici to injuries.
The Swans are looking bolster the club's playing side after failing to notch a single win in their inaugural season last year.
"We will continue working with Chloe and the AFL to bring her to Sydney through the mechanisms provided by the AFL," the Swans said in a statement on Wednesday.
The priority signing period for expansion clubs begins March 1, while the trade period for other clubs runs from March 10 to March 20.
