Piers Morgan vs Alex Beresford on GMB: One year later, where are they now?

How time flies. It's been precisely one year since Alex Beresford and Piers Morgan had their now-infamous spat on Good Morning Britain, resulting in Morgan storming off set and ultimately leaving the show.

The argument centred around Meghan Markle, and Morgan's criticism of her. He did not believe her claims that she was struggling with her mental health, which she made during an interview with Oprah Winfrey aired the previous night.

Bristol-born weatherman Beresford hit back, empathising with Markle's experiences of racism, which offended Morgan, leading to him walking off the show. He was never seen on Good Morning Britain again.

Yesterday, Tuesday (March 8), Morgan tweeted: "It's a year today since I declared that I didn't believe a word Meghan Markle said in her royal-trashing Oprah whine-athon. I still don't."

Today, the presenter tweeted: "A year ago today, I went for a little stroll… and in the words of Edith Piaf, je ne regrette rien!" Beresford, meanwhile, has not yet addressed the episode on its year anniversary.

Since then, Beresford has continued to present the weather on GMB and ITV's West Country news show. He recently quit the latter to take on a new role on the channel's national news.

His other TV appearances since the Morgan row include winning an incredible amount for a Bristol charity, Empire Fighting Chance, while competing in the Who Wants to be a Millionaire? celebrity special. Just this month, Beresford teamed up with the mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees, to promote the charity.

He will also appear in ITV's All Star Musicals later this spring. His Instagram following has doubled in the past year and he reportedly wants to 'crack America' after overwhelming support there.

Morgan, meanwhile, has taken some time out since his departure from Good Morning Britain. He quit his flagship talk show, Life Stories, in October, and stopped writing his Daily Mail columns in December.

He did recently appear on the BBC's Sunday Morning programme, the interim successor to the Andrew Marr Show, to review the papers - and also to promote his new ventures. He has signed an exclusive deal with Rupert Murdoch's News UK to write a column for the Sun and present a daily news show for Talk TV, the corporation's upcoming TV channel that is a spin-off of Talk Radio.

Good Morning Britain replaced Morgan with a number of guest hosts alongside Susanna Reid, including Martin Lewis, Alastair Campbell, and Bill Turnbull, before opting for Richard Madeley. The show continues to air every weekday from 6am.
