Piers Morgan vows to sue Earl Spencer despite receiving an apology

  • Piers Morgan has confirmed he will still pursue legal action against Earl Spencer and publisher Penguin over alleged defamatory lies in Spencer's new book, despite receiving an apology.
  • Morgan stated that he intends to have the alleged lies removed from the publication and wants any legal damages paid directly to the King's Trust.
  • Earl Spencer issued an apology for an historical error in the book, acknowledging that Morgan was not editor of the Daily Mirror when intrusive photos of Princess Diana were published in November 1993.
  • Despite apologising for the chronological mistake regarding the gym photographs, Earl Spencer maintained that his primary account of his conversation with Morgan remains accurate.
  • A statement on behalf of Earl Spencer reiterated that Morgan was surly and annoyed when personally called and informed that he was not welcome to attend Princess Diana's funeral.
