Controversial TV host Piers Morgan has responded following rumours that he could make a dramatic return to ITV replacing Phillip Schofield as This Morning presenter. Piers previously hosted ITV's Good Morning Britain from 2015 until 2021 alongside Susanna Reid, 52, where the duo achieved the highest ratings in the programmes history.
Schofield announced last Saturday that he was leaving This Morning after 21 years on the show. His departure came following an alleged feud with co-host Holly Willoughby.
Speculation has circled around a number of big names earmarked to replace Phil on the show. This includes Piers - but he has suggested there is a big hurdle in his way.

Morgan, 58, tweeted: "Thanks to everyone suggesting I might replace Philip Schofield at This Morning in a Lazarus-like comeback to ITV. Unfortunately, there’s just one problem: I still don’t believe a single word Meghan Markle says!"
Morgan dramatically left GMB more than two years ago following an on-screen bust up with Bristol weatherman Alex Beresford.
The iconic moment in March 2021 began with Beresford claiming Morgan had a personal grudge against Meghan, which explained his criticism of the Duchess, and his refusal to believe her when she told Oprah Winfrey that tabloid criticism had left her suicidal. "You don’t like Meghan Markle, you’ve made it clear a number of times on this programme," Beresford said.
"I understand that you have got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to.
"Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her."
At that point on the show, Morgan said "OK I’m done with this", and walked off the set. He returned later that morning, but within days had left the presenting role for good.
Despite his apparent refusal to return to ITV, brand Expert Rochelle White, Creative Director of the Rochelle White Agency believes Morgan could be an asset to the long-running ITV show alongside Holly Willoughby, 42.
She told The Daily Star: "If it did happen, it would be great PR for This Morning, it would be great exposure. I feel like sometimes with brands in general, they get very comfortable and comfortable isn't always a good place to be.
"You have to think about the future and you have to think about building longevity. Now, yes, it has been safe with Holly and Phil for a long time, but Piers could come on and take it to the next level.
"[Piers] brings excitement, it brings a little bit of fear, because [you never know] what's going to happen but then also it drives more conversation... the possibilities are endless. "I do feel like with This Morning, it probably does need a shake-up and a little bit of a revamp."
