Piers Morgan's wife brands Meghan Markle a 'figure of fun’ after she took on Queen

Americans have branded Meghan Markle a "figure of fun" after she took on the Queen, a commentator has claimed.

Celia Walden, a columnist and novelist, says the Duchess of Sussex made the “crucial misstep” of forgetting how much Americans “love” the Queen.

Anyone who was “deemed to have affronted the Queen… is just not going to go down well," according to Ms Walden.

Speaking from her home in LA, Ms Walden told GB News that she initially thought people in the US might be protective of Meghan, but said she had been mistaken.

Ms Walden said: "She’s just a figure of fun and the crucial misstep she made is forgetting that the whole of the US loves the Queen.

“So, anyone who is deemed to have affronted the Queen, or behaved badly in that regard, is just not going to go down well."

Ms Walden, who is married to Piers Morgan, went on to hit out at Meghan’s bid to trademark the word “archetypes” - which she has announced as the name of her first Spotify podcast series.

The new podcast claims to delve into female stereotypes and investigate "labels that try to hold women back".

In a trailer of the Archewell Audio project released last month, Meghan said: "This is how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us... but where do these stereotypes come from?

"And how do they keep showing up and defining our lives?"

But Ms Walden has said Meghan’s supposed bid to trademark the word archetypes is “a preposterous thing to do”.

She went on to remark that “the only thing” Meghan should be trademarking are the words “arrogant,” “entitled” and 'preposterous', because “all of those things are uniquely her”,

Ms Walden said it was “archetypal” of Meghan’s narcissism to think that you can own a word.

Meghan and Harry signed a lucrative deal with the audio streaming giant Spotify to host and produce podcasts, estimated to be worth around £18million in late 2020.

But they had only released one show so far - a holiday special featuring their son Archie and celebrity guests.

Spotify and Archewell Audio described Meghan’s conversations with typecast women for her own show as "uncensored" and said the duchess would delve into the origins of stereotypes.

Former Suits actress Meghan is also an executive producer on the series, along with Ben Browning, Archewell's head of content, and Rebecca Sananes, Archewell's head of audio.

The podcast will be produced by Archewell Audio in partnership with Gimlet Media for Spotify.
