Piers Morgan has marked the one year anniversary of his storming off the GMB set with a tweet saying he has no regrets. He described his actions which led to him leaving the ITV morning show as a 'long walk to freedom of speech'.
He marched off camera on March 9, 2021 following an on-screen spat with GMB weather presenter Alex Beresford. The pair had clashed over Meghan Markle's comments about the Royal Family during her and and her husband Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey the previous night.
In that programme the Sussexes first accused the royal family of not supporting them, claimed royal aides declined to help Meghan when she was troubled with suicidal thoughts and said a relative had made a racist comment about their son’s skin colour.
Bristol-born weatherman Alex Beresford had defended Meghan and empathised with her experience of racism, during a heartfelt outburst on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, March 9. Piers did not believe her claims she was struggling with her mental health.
Today, Piers tweeted: "A year ago today, I went for a little stroll… and in the words of Edith Piaf, je ne regrette rien!"
Yesterday, Tuesday (March 8), Morgan tweeted: "It's a year today since I declared that I didn't believe a word Meghan Markle said in her royal-trashing Oprah whine-athon. I still don't."
Since leaving GMTV, Piers has joined Talk TV for his own show due to be shown in the spring.
