Piers Morgan lets rip at Alec Baldwin after actor claims Rust shooting 'took years off life'

Piers Morgan has criticised Alec Baldwin over recent comments about the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust last year.

She was fatally shot whilst working on the film in New Mexico in October, with actor and producer Alec, 64, having been holding the gun which had fired the bullet that killed her.

He's however denied pulling the trigger, with an investigation believed to be ongoing into the death of Halyna, who was aged 42 and left behind a husband and young son.

There has been much commentary over the tragedy, with Piers, 57, having criticised Alec following comments made during an interview with CNN about the experience.

Piers retweeted an article about the interview, which had been shared by PageSix with the headline: "Alec Baldwin: The 'Rust' shooting has 'taken years off my life."

He said in response: "Says the man who ended a young woman's life... Baldwin's ongoing refusal to accept any responsibility & insistence on playing the victim is so disgusting."

A forensic report, obtained by ABC News, is said to have concluded that the revolver Alec had been holding could not have been fired without someone pulling the trigger.

As previously reported, Alec has denied pulling the trigger on the gun during the fatal incident, with him claiming that a bullet could be fired without the trigger being pulled.

He suggested it can happen if the hammer is pulled back "pretty far" but isn't locked in place, saying you can fire a bullet in such circumstances without locking the hammer.

Alec isn't alone in having suggested that the gun could fire without the trigger being pulled and he previously stated that the gun had gone off when he let go of the hammer.

He's suggested that he wasn't responsible for Halyna's death, saying recently: "Everybody who was there [knows] exactly what happened. They know exactly who's to blame."

An investigation is understood to be underway with officials in Nex Mexico, with it having been reported that no criminal charges have been brought against anyone as of yet.

Alec said during his CNN interview that he has lost several jobs since the incident on the set of Rust, with him claiming that he was "fired" from a project recently because of it.

He added that he's feared for his safety since Donald Trump publicly suggested that Alec had killed Halyna. Baldwin said its that type of stress that has "taken years off [his] life."

He said: "There is just this torrent of people attacking me who don't know the facts." He credited his wife Hilaria Baldwin, 38, and other relatives with keeping him going.

The actor said he probably would have "retired" and moved to "the middle of nowhere" if it wasn't for the support of his wife Hilaria, who is pregnant with their seventh child.

The Mirror has reached out to Alec's reps for comment.
