Piers Morgan leads "heartbreaking" celeb tributes after Cristiano Ronaldo's baby loss

'Heartbroken' Piers Morgan is among the many stars and fans to have paid tribute following the death of Cristiano Ronaldo 's baby son.

The footballer and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez tragically announced their loss in a heartfelt post on social media yesterday (Monday). The pair announced last October they were expecting twins, then revealed they were expecting a boy and girl in December.

The Manchester United star said the birth of his baby girl was 'giving the pair strength' after the death of their baby boy. The post read: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel.

“Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”

Hundreds of thousands of people have left messages of support on the Instagram post, including celebrities and footballers. Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan wrote: "Heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences to you and all your family."

Retired sprinter Usain Bolt commented three prayer emojis under the emotional post.

Broadcaster Gary Lineker wrote on Twitter: "Terribly sad news. Sincere condolences to you and your family."

Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford also tweeted: "Thoughts are with you and Georgina brother. I'm so sorry."

Yesterday Cristiano's sister Katia Aveiro penned a heartfelt message to the pair on Instagram, which read: "Our little angel is already on daddy's lap. I love you and my heart is with you over there. May God take care of you and strengthen your path more and more.

"Our angel is already on father's lap. And our little girl is there firm and strong and full of health and is going to show us with every day that only love matters."

Ronaldo and Averio's father, Dinnis, died of liver failure in September 2005.

In a message on social media, Manchester United sent a message of consolation to the bereaved couple. It said: “Your pain is our pain, Cristiano.

“Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.”
