Piers Morgan labeled a hypocrite for reaction to Anthony Joshua storming out of ring

TV host Piers Morgan hit out at Anthony Joshua for storming out of the ring following his defeat by Oleksandr Usyk - only to be reminded he has form of doing similar.

Joshua lost to Usyk for the second time in 11 months in Saudi Arabia last night as he failed to win back his three heavyweight world titles. And the Brit reacted badly to the result, slamming down two of Usyk's belts on the canvas before leaving the ring in anger.

He soon returned to deliver a passionate, expletive-laden, and at times bizarre speech which had fans concerned the Londoner was suffering from concussion. Joshua later explained he left the ring because he was worried he would do something he would later regret.

But Morgan had no sympathy for the former champion, tweeting: "Embarrassing antics at the end by Joshua. He was beaten by a superior fighter who put on a magnificent performance of highly-skilled, supremely resilient boxing. Congrats Oleksandr Usyk - a great champion and the pride of his nation. Moral of tonight: Ukrainians are hard as nails."

Social media users were quick to point out Morgan's contradiction, with many posting a video of him storming off the set of Good Morning Britain last year. He later left the programme and now hosts a struggling show on TalkTV. One user said: "Everyone does funny things when emotion takes over" while another added: "Imagine being at work and having a weird moment like that, like walking off live on air..."

Another user said: "Must have watched you storm off set", while a fourth added: "Defo had a Piers Morgan moment". In explaining his actions at a press conference late last night, Joshua said: "I knew I was mad at myself, not at anyone, just at myself. I thought I had to get out of there because I was mad. Like anyone, when you're mad you might do stupid things. Then I realised, 'S*** it's a sport, let's do the right thing and come back'."

The former two-time world champion has ruled out retiring from the ring despite suffering his third defeat in his last five fights. Instead he plans to return in November or December in a more low-key bout.
