Piers Morgan in furious clash with Trisha Goddard after he asks for Good Morning Britain job back over Prince Harry racism 'denial'

Piers Morgan found himself in a heated on-air clash with Trisha Goddard as she appeared as a guest on his show. The TV star was joined for the former talk show host on TalkTV on Monday night (January 9), hours after Piers asked about getting his job back on Good Morning Britain following Prince Harry's latest admission.

During Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle opened up about their time as senior working royals and alleged that an unnamed person within the royal household had 'concerns and conversations' about how 'dark' the skin of their son Archie would be.

And Piers received a huge backlash to comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex following her interview with Oprah back in March 2021 when he said he didn't believe some of her claims. Piers then became embroiled in a heated debate after he refused to believe claims from Meghan during her tell-all interview.

But the controversial journalist and TV star has asked about being reinstated by the ITV news programme after Prince Harry suggested comments made about his son before he was born were 'not racist'. During his sit-down interview with ITV anchor Tom Bradby, which aired on Sunday night, Prince Harry has said they never made a racism accusation.

After the 38-year-old was asked to elaborate on the Oprah interview in which ‘you accused members of your family of racism’, Harry replied: "There was – there was concern about his skin colour." He was then asked: "Wouldn’t you describe that as essentially racist?". But Prince Harry later responded: "I wouldn't, not having lived within that family."

Discussing that specific part of his ITV interview with Trisha on his TalkTV show, a row erupted between Piers and his guest as she defended the Prince. Trisha said: "I didn’t hear Harry or Meghan use the word racism, I heard you use it, I heard the press use it, I didn’t actually hear them use the word."

Reflecting on a previous exchange she had with Piers on Good Morning Britain, she said: "What I said to you when we had that robust exchange of words, I do get fed up with other people, white people, labelling what is and isn’t racist to Black people. If they did actually use the word racism, I would be agreeing."

But Piers called the comments 'utterly ridiculous' and said he will 'tell you what racism is'. Trisha replied: "Oh good, let me get comfortable. Piers Morgan is about to lecture a Black woman about racism."

"An example of racism would be somebody expressing concern about the skin colour of a baby from a mixed-race marriage and when the interviewer then says if it was darker that would be a problem, yes you may think that, that is an example of somebody expressing racism," Piers said. But Trisha remarked: "To you!"

Getting heated, Piers fumed: "For you to shamelessly sit there and pretend that wasn’t what they meant is utter bilge." But Trisha attempted to explain her point, and added: "If there were more Black people in the media, they may have had the opportunity to look into that and explain it a little bit more. I didn’t see it as racism and that’s why I got cross as you decided to label it racism."

But as Piers irritatingly spoke over his guest, Trisha clapped back: "See this is the problem: when a Black person attempts to talk about this in other than headline news, when I’m trying to have a reasoned conversation, I get shouted over. Why is my experience, or what Black people experience, why do we have no currency?"
