Piers Morgan doubles down on transfer advice to Cristiano Ronaldo amid Man Utd struggles

Piers Morgan has doubled down on his view Arsenal should sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United this summer.

The veteran forward, 37, has scored 22 goals in all competitions for United this season. But the team have struggled since his return, slipping to sixth in the Premier League title. They're currently six points behind Arsenal in fourth having played a game more.

Many critics believe Ronaldo is to blame for United's downfall due to the team being adapted to suit his style of play. The Portugal captain doesn't work tirelessly for the side and saves his energy to produce perfectly timed runs in front of goal.

The likes of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola, who demand players to cover every inch of grass, would struggle to indulge Ronaldo. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also unlikely to be interested in signing the player having built a squad without an obvious superstar.

Despite this, Gunners fan Morgan believes Ronaldo's attitude could enhance Arteta's team. "If I was Arsenal manager I would go in and get Ronaldo and put him up front," Morgan told talkSPORT. "I had this conversation with him last week! I said, 'Come to Arsenal.'

"United have, on paper, far more talented players and far more experienced players, but they don't have the right attitude. Their mental attitude is shot... if they all had Ronaldo's attitude, they'd be winning - but they're not.

"Whereas Arsenal have a lot of young, promising - really hungry - guys, who have a great attitude. Saka, Smith Rowe, Tierney - all these guys. That's what's encouraging. I think if you combine the United talent with our mentality, both clubs would be sorted.

"I would actually love - I'm not even joking - to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to Arsenal. If he's not going to stay at United, I'd take him in a heartbeat. I watched that game at the weekend [Arsenal's 3-1 win against United], he was the best player on the pitch."

Morgan has already called for Arsenal to sign Ronaldo. "Arsenal should sign Ronaldo this summer," he tweeted earlier this month. "I’m deadly serious. "That would solve our striker problem and help me move on from [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang."

Arsenal have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring 52 times in the Premier League - the lowest tally among teams in the top six. Yet they're also closing in on Champions League qualification, despite few pundits backing them to do so at the start of the season.

Arteta allowed Aubameyang to leave the Emirates in February, despite not having an obvious replacement. The Gabon international has scored nine La Liga goals for his new club Barcelona since then and Morgan has questioned the manager's decision.

"To my horror, he sold my favourite player Aubameyang, who's been banging in goals for fun at Barcelona," said Morgan. "I thought that was a terrible decision, I still do."
