Piers Morgan has responded to calls for him to replace Phillip Schofield on This Morning after the presenter stepped down from his role of 20 years on Saturday, May 20. Phillip, who has co-hosted the show with Holly Willoughby since 2009, confirmed in a statement he was quitting the daytime programme explaining that "ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on."
It comes following rumours of a feud between himself and Holly and reports they were "barely speaking" off camera. Now, former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers has broken his silence to discuss whether a return to ITV is on the cards.
The 58-year-old famously stormed out of the GMB studio in 2021 and was later forced to quit after making a series of controversial comments about Meghan Markle. In his latest Twitter post, Piers shared a picture of himself with Holly on the ITV Palooza red carpet in 2019 and told his 8.4 million followers: "Thanks to everyone suggesting I might replace Philip Schofield at This Morning in a Lazarus-like comeback to ITV.

"Unfortunately, there’s just one problem: I still don’t believe a single word Meghan Markle says!" It comes after Phil released a statement confirming he was quitting This Morning with immediate effect, his last show aired on Thursday, May 18.
Phil is still expected to present the Soap Awards in June and ITV has confirmed he will be at the helm of a new "peak time series" in the near future. Holly will remain on This Morning and will co-present with members of the This Morning family.
Phil's statement reads: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.
"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."
