Piers Morgan and Jeremy Vine have paid tribute to radio DJ Steve Wright after it was announced his show was being axed.
Listeners have been left outraged after news broke that BBC Radio 2's "Wright in the Afternoon" will come to an end in September after 24 years. In the major shake-up, Scott Mills will be leaving Radio 1 to take over from Steve, whose show aired on weekdays between 2pm and 5pm, with Sara Cox having her drivetime show extended by an hour so it starts at 4pm.
After the announcement, Steve's Radio 2 colleague, Jeremy Vine, tweeted his admiration, writing: "Steve Wright — one of the greatest radio voices of all time. Innovator, entertainer, complete and utter professional. Such a pleasure to work alongside him, such a great person to have a laugh with, bought me a pair of "radio slippers" when he caught me ogling his. [red heart emoji] this guy."
